5 days workshop, Windhoek july 2013

 

Between the 22nd and 26th of July 2013, Terre des Hommes Italy, in its project Foster awareness among Katatura informal settlements community on social inclusion and human right of most vulnerable children supported by the Delegation of The European Union in Namibia, organized a training on child protection. The main purpose of the training was to reduce risks incurred by children who benefit from activities organized by partners of Tdh-Italy. The main target group for this training were the workers from Tdh-Italy’s two partners in Namibia: Family of Hope Service (FHS) and Hope Initiative Southern Africa (HISA). Both organization were present and brought along their partners: community leaders, partners from the schools, etc. the workshop. All together there were 45 child carer who followed the workshop, representing 14 different bodies (HISA and FHS staff, community leaders and activists, school teachers and directors, WIMSA, OCADED, SPYL, Ministry off Gender, CAFO, EDCN, Paraclete Counselling Mission, Saves to serve Ministries’, Terre des homes Italy). The workshop focused on visualizing possible risks that children face within the organization and identified the need to respond to them. The standards promoted by the coalition Keeping Children Safe can help develop practice which keeps children safe from abuse and exploitation. They offer guidance, provide a basis for determining local standards and how these will be measured and achieved A secondary objective is for TdH ‘s partners to have adequate tools to respond to the challenges of assessing the situation, reducing risks, raising concerns and responding to an abuse or protection issue .

SANTAC is a non-governmental organisation founded in 2006 with the goal to see the Convention of the Rights of the Child concerning abuse, human trafficking and exploitation, particularly sexual offences, becoming a social reality in Southern Africa. In collaboration with its partners, IFtdh and Save the Children, it hosted a three day workshop entitled Safe Migration and children on the move in Southern African countries. The objectives of this event were to share information on mainstreaming challenges posed by the early migration and enable tdh partners to improve their contribution on proactive and reactive interventions to respond to the wide array of challenges posed to SADC countries in the context of child migration.

One day during the workshop was dedicated to the issue linked to child protection within projects adressing the issue of mobility, migration and trafficking.

Em Moçambique o MMAS fiz um inquérito sobre os serviços das organizações e centro cuidados de crianças. O MMAS encontrou 85 instituições e identificou a necessidade de fortalecer as capacidades do pessoal e dos padrões mínimo de atendimento as crianças. Conjunto com UNICEF, o MMAS organizou 3 treinamentos (Maputo, Beira, Nampula).

O objectivo principal das introducção na area da protecção foi de familiarizar os intervenientes no sistema de proteção as crianças e adolescentes e desenvolver com efetividade, habilidades e confiança na implementação das medidas de proteção. Os objectivos secundários foram : (1) dar informações sobre os riscos vivendo pelas crianças dentro das estruturas cuidando delas. (2)Dar informações sobre passos possíveis à tomarem para reduzir os riscos, melhorar a intervenção das equipas e proteger a estrutura. (3) Encaminhar com o MMAS na criação e implementação de ferramentas ligadas a protecção das crianças nos projectos, centros, intervenções com crianças.

The main objective of the introductory session on child protection and risk management was to raise concern in order to improve the protection of the children in the different projects of tdh-G in the region.

Terre des hommes Germany (tdh-G)/ Southern Africa Programme pretends to inforce Child Protection policies in its projects and support to its partners. Therefore, it seemed to be necessary to re-discuss the concept of Child Protection, to analyze what is being done to keep the children save in the different tdh-G’s projects and partners in southern Africa and to plan a better implementation of risk-reducing practices.

The workshop focused on raising the concern of risks children can expreience withing child-care and child-protection programs.

O Manual reflecte uma colectânea de Módulos desenhados no âmbito do PROFAI, um projecto de formação no âmbito da animação e do atendimento à criança, visando, de forma substancial, responder às necessidades de aprimoramento, harmonização e legitimação das práticas levadas a cabo pelas Associações que trabalham em benefício da criança. Embora tenha como grupo-alvo os Animadores de Infância, também pode ser utilizado por outros profissionais que lidam directamente com as crianças, tais como professores, enfermeiros, líderes religiosos etc., nomeadamente no que se refere à disponibilização de ferramentas básicas para adopção de uma melhor dinâmica nas suas acções. É composto por 16 Módulos, distribuìdos em cinco áreas específicas, designadamente a Área do Perfil do Animador (4 Módulos), a Área da Psicologia (2 Módulos), a Área da Educação e Animação (1 Módulo), a Área da Saúde (4 Módulos) e a Área da Preparação da Intervenção Social (4 Módulos).
